Kayda Update

Kayda is a dog we’ve had a for a few months.  Unfortunately when we got her, we discovered some medical issues – a torn cruciate and signs of hip displasia. She had an operation to fix the cruciate and is doing very well.  Her recent X-rays have come back and all looks good.  She is healing very nicely and will need to continue with rehab for at least the next 6 – 8 months.  This means no hard off leash play of any kind for this time period.  As her knee heals and she gets more mobility her exercise can be increased.

It will be very important that her new home is very conscious of her weight, she will need to lose the few pounds that she has put on since her surgery and maintain that for the rest of her life to keep her hips and leg in check.  Provided she is kept thin, in good shape and on basic supplements we don’t anticipate her hips will cause too much trouble in the future.

So that is the bad news.  The good news is, nothing else has changed about her.

  • She has the best boxer wiggle ever. Her little nubbin goes in the opposite direction of her wiggle. It’s hilarious.
  • She is sweet and cuddly and super affectionate.
  • She loves to lay on the couch with her head in your lap.
  • She likes to be told she is beautiful (really- she wiggles even more!)
  • She is happy and playful. She likes to carry around her pillow and any stuffed toys.
  • She is good with cats (ignores them) and is good with most other dogs although she can resource guard a bit and would do best with a more submissive dog sibling.
  • She has great manners, never jumps up, and knows all the basics.
  • She likes to lay upside down with a toy in her mouth. It’s a hobby.
  • She loves people and kids.
